Federal Work Study - CEEL Career Services Assistant

Title: CEEL Career Services Student Assistant

Term: September 4, 2024-May 2, 2025

Hours: Up to 10 Hours Per Week

Pay: $15.13 - $16.63 per hour

Location: Onsite, University Hall
 

Summary Statement

Reporting to the Director for Career Development and Success for CEEL, the Career Services Student Assistant will support the mission and vision of the newly created career services office in CEEL. This person will be integral in providing responsive, consistent, and high quality customer service to all who utilize the office, especially students.

 

Primary duties include: serving as point of contact for student inquiries, supporting career events and workshops, and assisting with general office tasks, including administrative work. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Answer student questions and refer students to the appropriate staff member/resources on campus
  2. Assist students with career-related MSU systems and websites (e.g., Handshake, LinkedIn)
  3. Be a positive representative of career services, CEEL, and the university
  4. Support in-person and virtual career events, such as workshops, classroom visits, and employer recruitment events
  5. Develop student-led career workshops
  6. Provide peer resume reviews and assist with peer mock interviews
  7. Promote career events and programs via social media channels
  8. Represent the career services office at on-campus events when needed
     

Other Responsibilities

  1. Meet weekly with the Director to discuss work performance, project updates, and upcoming deadlines
  2. Understand, abide by, and enforce all college and university policies and procedures, including FERPA.
  3. Maintain familiarity with responsibilities and employment guidelines
  4. Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding any conversation, phone call, or paperwork that the student is privy to while working in the office
  5. Demonstrate professionalism at all times while working a shift
  6. Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  1. Must be eligible for Federal Work Study.
  2. Must be an undergraduate student
  3. Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  4. Ability to work independently and with a team
  5. Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and leadership
  6. Competency with Google (Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, Hangouts, Meetings, etc.), social media (Instagram, LinkedIn), and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  7. Availability during regular business hours (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM; Monday-Friday), up to 10 hours per week
  8. Maintain full-time student status with a minimum of 2.0 GPA per semester and cumulative. Student staff members who drop below the 2.0 minimum standard for the semester or cumulative may be released from their position
  9. Must be in good disciplinary standing with the University.
