Career Services Student Assistant - Federal Work Study Student Employee

 

Department: The Office for Experiential Education and Career Connections

Job Summary:

The Career Services Student Assistant is a key student role responsible for engaging graduating students to complete the university's graduation survey. This position will also play a vital role in promoting important career aspects that will enhance the quality of career assistance and student life at the university. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively make outbound calls to graduating students to inform them about the graduation survey and its importance for university improvement.
  • Offer assistance to students in understanding survey questions and navigating the online survey platform. Record Student feedback and concerns regarding the survey.
  • Represent the Office for Experiential Education at various campus events. 
  • Promote career events (e.g., career fairs) and other resources to students on campus by handing out flyers, directing individuals to specific locations and answering any questions. 
  • Connect with the Office for Experiential Education and Career Connections  to communicate common feedback or concerns from students.
  • Handle student information with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment as a student at the University.
  • Strong communication and persuasive skills, with an ability to engage effectively over the phone as well as in person.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in data collection, research, or survey methodologies.
  • Basic proficiency in data entry and management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

Work Conditions:

  • Flexible hours, with a requirement to work at least 8 hours/week on campus. 
  • Must attend the Career Fair on October 4th.
  • Ability to lift and carry a range of  items varying in weight. 

 

Start Date: September 9, 2024 

 

Learning Outcomes:

This position offers a unique opportunity for students to contribute directly to the university's continuous improvement efforts while enhancing their communication, persuasion, and data management skills. The student will benefit from one-on-one mentorship and will have access to workshops, training sessions, and other resources that can enhance their skills and knowledge.


The students will:

  • Develop strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, particularly on the phone.
  • Acquire valuable time-management skills and adhere to professional work environment ethics; they will apply these skills in a real-world context which will prepare them for future career opportunities. 
  • Learn the value of collaboration, teamwork and clear communication while connecting with the Office for Experiential Education. They will resolve issues and communicate feedback they receive from the students regarding the Graduation Survey and the various career resources and events throughout campus.
