Student Assistant - International Academic Initiatives

Under the supervision of the International Programs Coordinator, the International Academic Initiatives (IAI) Student Assistant supports the facilitation of all aspects of the study abroad/away programs. This includes: marketing/outreach, event programming, database maintenance, IAI website updates, coordinator of our Study Abroad Peer Advisor program, and other office duties. Our portfolio includes international exchange programs, affiliated programs, faculty-led programs, and a domestic exchange program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with logistics of Study Abroad fairs and other events, both online and in-person
  • Assist with logistics of pre-departure meetings held during Fall and Spring
  • Greet walk-ins to the IAI office and provide initial assistance
  • Assist in developing marketing to promote programs and events
  • Creating and posting on all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube) and Montclair State website
  • Post on all MSU internal sites and calendars (Engage, University Calendar, etc...)
  • Assist in promoting programs and delivering and creating special sessions and events
  • Create, edit, and update program descriptions and other content using TerraDotta application software
  • Assist in maintenance of study abroad and NSE websites
  • Assist with student application management and follow-up with students with incomplete applications
  • Assist in administration of our Study Abroad Peer Advisor Program which includes: recruiting, interviewing, and training new Peer Advisors, arranging the schedules of SAPAs for classroom presentations, open houses, and other events on campus, and working with faculty/staff members to coordinator classroom and group presentations. Also maintains and updates the SAPA sections of the IAI website
  • General administrative office support
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Montclair State University and in good academic standing
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of initiative
  • Excellent organizational and efficiency skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills, outgoing personality, ability to interact with students in an accurate and professional manner, and an enthusiasm for study abroad
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail with all assigned tasks
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Suite, social media)
  • Web Press and Graphic Design skills a plus
  • Experience or knowledge of use of social media for marketing purposes
  • Experience with creative web design a plus
  • Background in one of the following a plus: Public Relations, Visual Communication Design, Marketing, Communication Studies, Journalism, or English
  • Previous experience studying abroad a plus
  • Able to commit 10-15 hours per week
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 2 semesters. Availability over summers and winter breaks preferred. Preferred commitment for at least three semesters.
