Student Assistant - Conference Center

Conference Center Student Assistant
 
One of the key strategic goals for Montclair State University is “to be recognized as a center for excellence in teaching and learning while providing expanded opportunities to students within a richly diverse setting.” In an effort to support this goal, enhance the learning process outside the classroom and add real-world experience to what students learn in the classroom, the Conference Center Student Assistant positions were created.

Learning Aspects of the Position:
     -  Become familiar with all functions of a Conference Center start up operation.

-   Internal and external client relations.

-         Outside vendor relations.

-         Employee relations.

-         Advanced customer services skills.

-         State-of-the-art AV training.

-         Time management skills

Responsibilities:
Perform all opening and closing procedures for the Conference Center such as but not limited to securing the facility after an event and breaking down AV equipment.

Meet and assist with the coordination of outside vendors delivering rental equipment for the events in the conference center. 

Act as the Conference Center lobby concierge including assisting event invitees with support services. Taking and relaying messages during events.

Set-up, staff and breakdown a coat check.

Set-up, operate and breakdown the AV system.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of the Conference Center assist with the set-up and break down of the Conference Center including but not limited to: chairs, tables, staging, and ancillary equipment related to events held in the Center.

Perform other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to lift banquet and meeting style tables, chairs, staging and other equipment associated with large conference events. Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and official school closing days due to inclement weather. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong knowledge of computers and AV systems preferred.
